Process Blog #1 (16th June)
I decided that I wanted my GIP to focus on an environmental issue. At first, my topic was ‘how our world’s waste is affecting third world countries?’. As I furthered my research, I discovered that it was not interesting me because of it was so specific. I then changed my topic to ‘how is waste affecting the world?’. This is much broader and I found more interest in this (global warming, water pollutants, mass food waste, etc.). I have found that there are various sources in this wide-ranged topic and I am happy with my decision so far because I am enjoying learning and researching the issues involved. My first four pages of research cover most of the sub-topics that I wanted to cover, however I definitely want to extend my research, especially on food wastage because I mostly just have statistics on Australia at the moment, so I would like to look at the waste at a more global aspect and see what countries are affecting the World the most.
Mrs. Newman’s Feedback
Hi Emma, it seems like you have got off to a good start.
Where to next? - Continue conducting research and reading into your general topic area and collect information in a systematic way. In the next two weeks you need to finalise your GIP question. While I like the direction you are heading in; it does need to be more specific. E.g.
· What is the impact of global waste on the environment and what can be done to reduce the impacts?
· What is the future of our environment given the amount and impact of waste?
Process Blog #2 (21st July)
I have taken Mrs. Newman's feedback into account, so I have decided to make my topic more specific. In order to do this without me losing interest in what I'm researching, I have carefully chosen a new topic - 'What is the future of our environment given the amount of impact and waste?' This means that my research will not be quite so broad and I should have a better understanding of what I'm researching. Although I have researched sub-topics like global warming and water pollutants, I can still use this information in my edited topic because it is definitely still relevant to my new question.
Process Blog #3 (17th August)
My research is coming together. I have stuck to my question and gone through extensive research to ensure I cover all the areas of my question. I have done this by considering anything that may be relevant to environmental waste and combining all of these topics. I have chosen to focus on technology and food waste, water pollutants, landfills and pollution, global warming and farming. I have almost finished my research for these topics. I just have to further my understanding in farming and global warming.
Process Blog #4 (10th September)
I have completely finished my research. My next step is to chose a way to present my work. I have narrowed it down to a factual book, a weebly and an essay. I will probably go with the book because I think it is the best way to present my information and is a great way of making extensive research look aesthetically pleasing. I have really enjoyed using padlet as a source to create my process blog. It keeps me stay on track and very efficient throughout the whole time.
Process Blog #5 (28th September)
I changed my form of presentation to a weebly. I enjoy using the site and I find it very easy to present all my information without it becoming too messy and oversized. My GIP is finally coming together and I am excited to finish the assignment as I have worked hard to cover my question with thorough research whilst enjoying it. I am very glad I chose the topic of environmental waste and have no regrets in my choices towards the beginning of the GIP process.
